The Chicago area at Highlands and LaGrange, at Birmingham, Missouri, near Kansas City, then along the old Great Northern in the Minot area and in the Sandhills of Nebraska, and finally along the former CB&Q at Ottumwa and Mt Pleasant, Iowa.
Here is the final four years of the BN before its inclusion into BNSF. We focus on three major locations around the system, in the St Paul area at Newport, Hoffman Ave and Westminster, then along the old Northern Pacific in the Valley City, North Dakota area, and finally along the former CB&Q at Bushnell, Illinois.
It’s one of the roughest, toughest mountain passes, where heavy tonnage trains battle 2.2 percent grades and up to three sets of helpers are needed for the haul.
