When the Burlington Northern put their new Oakway EMD SD60’s into service, Colorado’s colorful Joint Line became even more colorful with the bold new blue and white paint scheme. Then came the new gray and red DASH 8’s on lease to the BN from GE subsidiary LMX. The Santa Fe adds to the color with their intriguing red and yellow “SF” units painted and lettered in anticipation of the ill-fated SPSF merger. Another sequence is devoted to the SANTA FE Quality Service Freights. Short and fast these trains leave from Big Lift south of Denver headed for La Junta, Colorado over the Joint Line.

Then it’s back to the basics of railroading in the busy yards of Denver. Colorado. Trains of all 3 roads…the Burlington Northern, the Rio Grande and the Santa Fe are switched for their spectacular run along the Rockies. Narrated by Rege Cordic.

  1. Mwdonoughue

This program showcases action on the Joint Line back when BN was utilizing lease units on some of their trains, and when the “Kodachrome” paint scheme was evident on some locomotives.

From the locomotives to the consists, the railroad operations to the Colorado scenery … “colorful” is the key word! The video in this program is now more than thirty years old, and captures a different era in railroading. Video quality is excellent, the camerawork is very well done and the narration provides helpful information about the trains and the area. This is a railfan’s time machine, and one of WB’s best!

The Joint Line is a favorite of mine, especially during the 1980-1995 period when the ATSF, BN and DRGW/SP could be found on the same tracks. This video does an EXCELLENT job of capturing the new Oakways and LMX units on BN, as well as the SPSF merger units and Q-Trains on the ATSF! My only complaints about this DVD are its length (only 59 minutes) and the lack of DRGW power. You see some DRGW units but not really any DRGW trains.

  4. Everywhere West

The videography here is just excellent, taking us to great train watching locations. And these trains are not any that can be seen any longer. 🙁 BN green and Santa Fe and EMD blue and even a caboose or two! The audio is very good and the narration is quite helpful.

  5. T.A.R.

GOOD DVD ABOUT COLORADO’S FAMOUS SHARED RAIL LINE AND THEIR COLORFUL DIESELS. SEE BURLINGTON NORTHERN IN GREEN, PLUS EMD IN BLUE AND WHITE AND SANTA FE IN THEIR RED/YELLOW AND BLUE/YELLOW SCHEMES. LOTS OF ACTION AND COLOR. 5 STARS AND 1 HOUR LONG.

  6. Arthur Patzwald

Nice paint schemes – the way BN railroad used to be in the good old days and red and yellow Santa Fe paint scheme.
