The Kantner collection is a fine group of 8mm railroad films photographed by the brothers Arch and Bruce Kantner of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania. The collection highlights the rarely photographed coal region railroad operations with visits to capture the main line action in Pennsylvania and the Virginias from the early 1950s into the beginning of Conrail.
The first Volume covers the Reading coal and passenger service and the PRR ore trains and locals in Schuylkill County, operations on the Lehigh Valley and CNJ in the Lehigh River gorge, the PRR steam to diesel transition in western Pennsylvania, the Lackawanna detour trains and more in the early to mid 1950s.
