“2102 Fall Trips” covers 3 trips in the Autumn of 2022, the first year it the big former Reading 4-8-4 was restored. These trips are to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania from Reading, and lots of great locations and grades that make 2102 really bark. It’s impressive. We have beautiful clear weather with cold temps, and a combination of dew and leaves on the rails, it all made for some impressive slipping from 2102. In addition we have some footage from a camera mounted behind the smoke stack. This allows an unusual view and you see some ahead and on the side of the train. We intermingle some of these clips in order with the trackside views. It fills in some of the blanks nicely, and really adds to the enjoyment of the show.

In Volume 2 of Greg’s Steam on the Reading & Northern Trilogy, the newly restored T1 Northern operated on all 3 of the 2022 fall foliage specials: 2 in October (one on the 1st with an early morning sunrise & one on the 29th with the early morning hours again but with former Gulf Mobile & Northern 4-6-2 number 425 being fired up with a whistle show at Port Clinton), & one on November 6th with 425 on yesterday’s trip due to the T1’s mechanical issues & even pacing on the return trip, which is on the same Reading to Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania line via Port Clinton & East Mahanoy Junction back in volume 1 titled: 2102 returns.

On both October segments during the return trip, RDC Budd Cars 9166 & 9168 are rolling through the route 93 tunnel in Nesquehoning while waiting for the T1 as the Budd Cars are heading back to Pottsville from Jim Thorpe on the first, & later at an S curve on the 29th that is also at Nesquehoning.

There is also Go-Pro footage on top of the T1’s Boiler from Port Clinton to Lake Hauto with a fireless 0-6-0 on display at Tamaqua during the 10-29-22 trip as well as slipping at East Mahanoy with branches on 2102.

Note that some of the Illinois Central coaches on all of 2102’s passenger trains were previously owned by the already closed for good Rio Grande Scenic in Colorado, while at Tamaqua on the 10-1-22 return trip, a branch is stuck on the fireman’s side of the tender.

Aside from the GSVP camera team which consists of Brady Sanker, Zac McGinnis, & Frank Garon, James Parfrey of Steam Train Videos, Diverging Clear Productions, & Brad Plets of Plets Express was also on the T1’s fall ’22 trips.
