4449 Journey: Portland is proud of its showpiece of railroad history — the 4449. We caught this spectacular locomotive and its train on an excursion out of Portland and on its way to Stampede Pass. Follow the 4449 through the beautiful Pacific Northwest, which provides a spectacular backdrop for one of the world’s most favorite trains. A great train and a great locale —what more could you want? 4449 Nightlight: Southern Pacific’s 4449 Daylight was painted black and became 4449 “Nightlight” for the BNSF Employee Appreciation Special. Machines of Iron followed the special across the Pacific Northwest to bring you this spectacular video. Scenes in and around Vancouver, WA, the Columbia River Bridge, Spokane Bridge, Sandpoint, ID, Horse Thief Lake, and the Cascade Locks are among the highlights of this show. 4449 fireman Jack Wheelihan takes us on a tour of the 4449 cab and Doyle McCormick gives us the story on the “black” 4449

Daylight 4449 truly is the queen of steam and has always been a fan favorite for more than 40 years now. On 4449 journey (1997), the locomotive traveled over the stampede pass in central Washington which was re acquired by BNSF the year before excursion took place. Mark 1 Video was the only other crew to capture the event and it can be shown from their video “Summer Steam Spectacular Volume 1”. On 4449 nightlight (2000), the locomotive was painted in black and carried the BNSF logo for the employee appreciation special throughout the Pacific Northwest and ironically, BNSF diesel 4449 assisted the daylight locomotive for the whole trip. Highball Productions and Pentrex were also on hand for the event. Both great videos to watch.

There are two shows on this DVD: the 4449 Journey was filmed in 1997, while the nightlight version was shot in 2000. This is good coverage of both of these outings. It is unusual to see 4449 in some of these paint schemes.
