In August 2021, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic gathered five operating pre-1900 steam locomotives to celebrate the preservation railroad’s 50th anniversary. In this DVD, Trains covers the action of these old, great locomotives in operation: Eureka, Glenbrook, Rio Grande Nos. 168 and 425, plus Rio Grande Southern No. 20.

Additionally, we’ll look at Sunset on the Rio Grande, a Trains Magazine special event with RGS 20 and Extra 493, another Trains event at the Durango & Silverton with Rio Grande 2-8-2 No. 493 and visiting Southern Pacific 4-6-0 No. 18 from California. In the Trains magazine video version of last August’s narrow gauge steam specials, Kevin Gilliam narrates this nearly 2 hour show as 168, 463 (renumbered to 455 for the events), 315/425, RGS 20, The Eureeka & the Glenbrook are operating on not only the Victorian Iron Horse Roundup, but also on a Trains Magazine photo special as well. Aside from the C&TS, there is also a segment on the Durango & Silverton featuring not only a restored/oil converted 493, but also a visit from newly restored Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge 10 wheeler number 18 the slim princess. During the Iron Horse Roundup, sleeping car number 470 is a reference to a Maine Central 4-6-2 that is still under restoration at the Downeast Scenic Railroad in Ellsworth Maine.

Meanwhile, the late Jim Wrinn traveled to Golden CO for the test run of RGS 20. It was made months prior to the C&TS August 2021 specials. Not only that, but there is also leap day weekend 2020 coverage of the return of Rotary Snowplow OY as the snow busting machine is being pushed by 487 & 484.

Along the way, there are interviews with former CMO of the Cumbres & Toltec John Bush, Current CMO for the C&TS Stathi Pappas, Crewmember for the Durango Railroad Historical Society Dave Taylor, Director of the Nevada state railroad museum Randy Hees, CMO for the NSRM Chris DeWitt, and Curator & CMO for the CRM Jeff Taylor.

In the Closing credits, Mike Armstrong was listed in the camera operators section.
