This program is a must for every steam and narrow gauge steam fan. The Rocky Mountain Railroad Club sponsored many steam trips in the 1950s, and this is a film record of 15 of them. See the D&RGW Narrow Gauge trips to Durango, Alamosa, Silverton and Farmington. On the Great Western/Colorado & Southern we travel from Denver to Eaton. The C&S also includes trips to Lyons and Trinidad. On the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway we see a diesel rotary and the last steam run on Pikes Peak. We wrap it up with Union Pacific 844 running out of Cheyenne to Laramie in 1960.
This program features the historical 16mm films taken by Irving August from 1952 to 1962 on the club’s excursions, both standard and narrow gauge. This organization is dedicated to preserving the history of railroading, and through these excursions they became a part of history. Irving introduces the program and narration is by Rege Cordic.

This is a great DVD for any steam fan! Loved the footage of the Colorado narrow gauge back in the 50’s and enjoyed the footage of steam on Pikes peak.

This is a great DVD for any fan of steam locomotives, especially those who like the Rio Grande narrow gauge steam. All of the footage is excellent. The ones that stand out the most for me were the footage of what is today’s Durango and Silverton and Cumbres and Toltec, including the now gone portion that connected both railroads.
