In 1987, Arthur Purchase made a trek to the deep south to record the railroad action on numerous shortlines and several class one railroads in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi. You will chase L&NW’s former SP F-units, view GE 70 Tonners on the Warren and Saline River and the Prescott and Northwestern, ALCO power on the Arkansas and Missouri and Little Rock and Western a cab ride on the Meridian and Bigbee over the Tombigbee River Bridge and the famous trolleys of New Orleans.
Class one action is viewed on the Burlington Northern, Kansas City Southern, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific in locations such as Texarkana and Amory, Mississippi. For the Grand Finale, Arthur Purchase met up with George Redmond from the “Railfanning with George Redmond” series to catch the action at the ICG/Conrail diamonds in Effingham, Illinois on his way back to Massachusetts.
If you love deep south railroading or short lines in General, this is certainly a program that you do not want to miss!

Wonderful video showing a number of short lines before they became part of the “Orange Giant” G&W.
Not one particular scene was better than the other, it was all great fun to watch.
