We’ll visit Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York in this throwback to 1984. Watch action on the now abandoned Aroostook Valley Railroad and on the Belfast & Moosehead Lake when they still ran freight. On Guilford’s D&H we see a former Lehigh Valley C420 and a work train on a now abandoned portion of the Maine Central’s Mountain Division. Also on the MC, see the now-gone GE U18B units labeled as the “Independence Class”. There’s more to be seen: P&LE U28B units in action and “Bluebird” Geeps on the B&M to name just two scenes of nostalgia!

NOTE: No narration. This is vintage eighties footage, shot using equipment of the time. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes of long-gone railroads and equipment.

  1. Matt

A really program, lots of neat motive power and obscure railroads covered. Got a few nice sounding M3T1 air horns blowing too. The quality is a little rough but the original sound makes up for it. New England railroading at its finest!

  2. C. E.

Great Video! Loved every minute of it! Best part was a C420 leading a road freight and the very rare footage of the Belfast and Moosehead Lake before it was a tourist railroad.
