With the recession of 1982, Conrail began consolidating divisions and workforce. Railfanning with the Bednars Volume 10 follows Dave Augsburger, Big Mike and his pop, Joe Bednar, as they head west to pursue other railroad employment opportunities for Mike. There were few choices for railroad employees. Either relocate to where needed, or the possibility of being laid off. For some, the latter was the only choice offered. The other option was to seek employment elsewhere. Many did just that. They ventured west to find a job with other railroads. In Volume 10 we follow Big Mike and crew out to Colorado and points in between to look for work on the western railroads. As usual, Big Mike provides his well known brand of humor. Narrated with commentary by Mike Bednar.

I enjoyed this one because it made you feel like you were on a railfan junket with some good buddies, disguised as a job search. Travel back to the days when the worst graffiti to be found on freight cars was a chalk-drawn “Herby” or “Waterbed Lou”. This DVD is for the fan who remembers when there were cabooses on every freight, 40 foot cars and D&RGW, MP, ICG, ATSF, and so many more were’t fallen flags. The bad thing about this DVD is, it made me get the rest of the
    Bednar series!

Great video of some more obscure scenes in 1982. Extensive coverage of GBW Trains 2 and 6 over the course of 2 days. Following the Kyle Railroad running ex-BN Alcos in Kansas, and a surprising amount of BN and DRGW on the Joint Line in Colorado. Even a trip to Glenwood Springs on the DRGW Zephyr! LOVED THIS ONE MORE THAN I EXPECTED!
