This is Norfolk Southern’s busy entry into Chicago from the East. Traffic is so busy that NS purchased the former Pennsylvania Railroad’s line through northern Indiana and now two lines carry this traffic, the old PRR line and the former Nickel Plate main.
We begin our look at this double-route line into Chicago at the Belt Railway of Chicago’s Hayford Junction. We wind up at Fort Wayne’s East Wayne Yard which can see 100 trains a day. Fort Wayne is an important hub for Norfolk Southern where the former PRR line meets ex-Wabash, and ex-Nickel Plate lines.
This is vintage nineties footage, shot using nineties equipment. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes, many not covered elsewhere, and the narration is informative and top notch.

Wrong Pennsylvania mainline-the Panhandle went through Logansport and Indianapolis. The line mentioned here is the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago mainline of Broadway Limited fame.

Was very disappointed with this program, poor quality video plus the program jumped from Vaparaiso to Fort Wayne, missing over 100 miles of main line that would be great to see, and the reason I bought this program. The only reason I gave one star is because at least the narration included info about train symbols.
