There are hundreds of shortline railroads across North America. The majority are spin-offs from trackage no longer wanted by Class One railroads and other bigger companies. Only a few of those spin-offs retain a name and original track miles since their birth. Even fewer shortlines are nearly original over a 100-year history. Join us as we follow and document one such rarity: the Lancaster and Chester Railroad, the “Springmaid Line”. Narrated.

To quote Monty Python: “And now for something completely different”. The videography is flawless, the setting is picturesque, the narration is interesting and the operations are fascinating. It’s an up-close look at hard-working trains that makes for two hours of great armchair railfanning, and the entire video has a nice, relaxed feel to it. If you’re looking for a program to complement a video collection heavy on Class One railroads and high-speed stack trains, this is it.

If there was an award for the best railroad video made in a year….. this would win for 2017. This is the best shortline video I have seen and purchased. There is plenty of action with the older type engines, not making great speed, but working hard. Interchanging with NS so we get to see the NS adding to it. Included is a map of the region covered. Narration is very well done and informative. The region is quite scenic and also well presented.
Top marks for a great video.
