Description

On June 27th, 2013, a westbound CSX train was in the process of crossing over from one track to another, when an eastbound train approached and failed to heed the stop signal at this location. The resulting sideswipe collision shut down the busy Mohawk Subdivision for over 56 hours. BKVP arrived at the scene shortly after the mishap, and over the next several days we documented the derailment, the clean-up and the reopening of this vital railroad line.

A number of railfan videos include images of derailments and note the impact they’ve had on train traffic, but nothing like this. Broken Knuckle’s excellent camerawork chronicles the clean-up process from soon after this 2013 collision until the line reopened, and informative narration explains what’s happening during the operation and the effect the closure is having on this busy rail line. A truly unique video, and a nice addition to any collection.

While no one wishes to see this as it is costly and injuries are likely…. it is very interesting to see the clean-up operations of a collision/derailment . In this case….. no injuries, so that part was good. The producer does a fine job putting the video together so we can see all that goes into the clean-up. Well worth owning a copy of this video.

We get to see a comprehensive view of what is takes to reopen a mainline after a significant derailment. From the moments shortly after, the cleanup, and the resumption of service on the Mohawk Subdivision of CSX at CP 188. Thankfully there were no fatalities.
