Shortlines and regionals are a vital source of traffic for the big Class 1 Railroads. Much of Conrail’s traffic in the Northeast fit this pattern. In the late 1980s to mid 1990s, Tim Wakeman & Jerry Albertie explored these smaller feeder railroads. They didn’t sit at one location watching the trains go past. This is serious train chasing-railfanning! Tim and Jerry’s eye for “Working on the Railroad” is displayed in many great scenes!
Covered in this show are these railroads: Conrail, St. Lawrence & Hudson (under Canadian Pacific ownership), Housatonic Railroad, Central Vermont, Vermont Railway (On Green Mountain tracks – soon to be the Vermont Rail System), Reading & Northern and the New York, Susquehanna & Western. Plus watch industrial rail operations Jeddo Highland Coal Company.
