We visit the busy BNSF Racetrack, the main route out of Chicago for train to and from the west. It’s where frequent commuter trains rub shoulders with long freight trains heading to a variety of destinations. We begin at Naperville as we head east along the tracks to locations such as Downers Grove, Hinsdale, LaGrange, LaVergne and on to downtown Chicago around Union Avenue (Canal Street Wye) and the Roosevelt Road overbridge with its unparalleled views towards the City skyline.
Our programme features Metra class F40PH’s and F40 PHM’s, as well as Amtrak Dash 9-P42B and Dash 8-P40B. On the freight side we witness a whole host of B.N.S.F. and ‘foreign road’ power, with SD70ACe, SD70mac, ES44C4, ES44DC, AC4400-CW and ET44C4 all being examples seen.
