On June 2nd, 1999, George Redmond made a day trip with two friends to the Metra LaGrange Road station in Bolingbrook, IL. Instead of taking a car from Centralia to Chicago and back, the three friends took the all rail route; taking the City of New Orleans to and from Chicago. We start in the early morning hours with BNSF and Illinois Central action in Centralia before hopping on board the City for the fast trip into Chicago, where we board an outbound Metra train for the trip to LaGrange Road. There, not only will you see the evening “dinky parade” of outbound Metra trains rushing commuters home, but BNSF freights and trackage rights Union Pacific stack trains bound for Kansas City. Amtrak’s Southwest chief and California Zephyr are also seen both at the start and end of their journeys.
Come along for an exciting ride to LaGrange Road in a program that is filled with unexpected surprises and fast paced railroad action. It’s a program you won’t want to miss.
This is vintage nineties footage, shot using nineties equipment. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes of long-gone railroads and equipment.
