Enjoy beautiful New Mexico and one of BNSF’s busiest single track lines – the railroad through rugged Abo Canyon. You’ll start your visit in Belen, New Mexico with a tour of the large yard and a ride through part of it on a new General Electric model Dash 9-44CW locomotive. Then we head east, seeing the railroad from Belen, through Abo Canyon and its many bridges, to the summit of the grade at Mountainair. Shot during a time of transition, we’ll see a variety of BNSF, Santa Fe and BN motive power.
This may be your last chance to see trains with the classic Santa Fe red warbonnet locomotives on the front of the train. You’ll really enjoy the sounds of the trains growling up the steep mountain grade, sometimes at a crawl! If you like mountain railroading, you’re sure to love this program! Chapter Menu provides instant access to program segments.

Abo Canyon is an interesting region to see. The beauty of the region is different from the American northwest, but a beauty unto it’s own. Great to the the warbonnets still in active duty as they pull heavy trains through this majestic part of the USA

It’s easy to see why New Mexico is known as “The Land Of Enchantment”! From the desert to mountain grades to the bridges of Abo Canyon, this program does a great job capturing the scenic beauty of the region. The BNSF merger was only a few years old when this video was shot, so there are still plenty of locomotives wearing pre-merger colors. Camera locations are well chosen and the trains sound great! A “must have” for any collection.

BNSF in Abo Canyon is an interesting video to watch trains traveling through this hard to reach canyon, and with nice looking motive power too.

Shot & produced just a few years after merger, we see a lot of Santa Fe as well as BNSF. There are lots of great action shots in the desert as well as a cab ride through one of the yards.
