It’s hard to imagine that 25 years ago next month in 1994, The city of Atlanta Georgia was the headquarters of that year’s NRHS convention. This nearly 2 hour program covers Different trips alone and together with 1522 and 611. Not Long after the convention comes to a close, Norfolk Southern’s New president David Goode’s first assignment is to say farewell forever to the original steam excursions meaning that 611 would be put back on display in Roanoke due to Mr. Goode’s Thoughts that running a steam engine on NS rails is too Expensive. All in all, Great mix of diesels, specials and of course the lovely deep tone steamboat whistles of 611 & 1522. 25 years after the NRHS convention in Atlanta, 1522 is still on display since the end of september and into october 2002, while 611 was one of the many mainline giants to be put on Amtrak’s Worst President Dick Anderson’s No Steam Giants allowed policy along with 261, 2926, 700, 765, 3751, 4449, 630, and 4501.
