“B-17 Time” looks at the Flying Fortress through 4 main segments: In 2013 operations were in Cincinnati with B-17G “Aluminum Overcast”. We see a great start-up sequence on the sunny side in the morning, and watch a few take-offs, flyovers and landings. Next it is 2007 and we enjoy a ride in “Liberty Belle”. We see some ground shots, then board the plane for a good view of the interior, the crew, and outside views of the 4 engines. Experience views from the nose, and behind the pilot and co-pilot.
The third segment is part of a historic film, “The Memphis Belle”. This runs about 18 minutes, and has the beginning and ending, and tells the story of the final mission of the first B-17 to complete 25 combat missions. Our next aircraft is “Nine-O-Nine” which is owned and operated by the Collings Foundation. It’s 2016 and we’ll see some nice close-ups of engine starting, taxi scenes, take-offs, landings, and some good fly-overs. We’ll also take a look at some other planes gathered for this air festival.

Here’s the segments that appear in order with a magnificent variety of airplanes in action:
1. B-17G Aluminum Overcast at Cincinnati’s Lunken Airport in June of 2014 with a blimp & truck trailers that’s advertising for DirecTV, as well as some scenes from the nearby Golf Course, plus some music during much far-away angles from the bike path.
2. A partial Vintage color sound film of the Memphis Bell itself during the war in 1943 that was made by the Army itself.
3. A flashback to June 17, 2007 with an onboard flight inside the Liberty Bell at Mt. Comfort Indiana that was shot by Phil Estep who also photographed B-24J Witchcraft in late October of 1989 at the same location as it was shown in another GSVP WWII Blu-Ray: A Rare B-24 Bomber. Only narration was shown at the exact start & end of this segment. (Unfortunately, this plane was gone for scrap in June of 2011 after it was caught on fire)
And 4. August 2016 coverage of Nine-O-Nine at Valparaiso Indiana which was filmed at the exact same time as the rare B24 bomber video was produced as evidenced by other visiting airplanes: the witchcraft itself, B25: Tondelayo, & a pair of P-51s: Betty Jane & Tuolouse Nuts. Sadly like the Liberty Belle, Nine-O-Nine was also gone for scrap after it crashed in Connecticut in Early October of 2019.
Like Many of Greg’s 2017 titles minus the original 1987 editing of Norfolk & Western 1218 Rebuilt & Roanoke Bound, this was Narrated by Brian Sellers.
