Vintage film footage from 8mm and Super 8 silent color movie film, featuring great steam locomotive action. Steam locomotives like CB&Q 4960 with shots along the main line to Mendota, the Streator Branch, and along the Mississippi out of St. Louis to Hannibal.
Grand Trunk Western 5629 is seen at Griffith Tower while we see GTW 4070 from inside the cab and then on the train.
A visit to to the north nets us Canadian National 6218, this one, in the cab, on the train and with a run-by. It’s the GTW again, but foreign power as Reading 2102 gives us a thrill with film from on the train and a nice run-by. We also get a bit of GM diesels on the GTW on trips to South Bend.
Then there’s UP 8444 on a trip out of Denver to Yoder, Wyoming and the first American Freedom Train near Gilman on the Illinois Central and on the TP&W, C&lM, and again on the lC out of Springfield towards Kankakee. We get a lot of pacing in this sequence. And we catch Southern Pacific 4449 on the Freedom Train from Rockford to Aurora, Illinois.

The engines that are shown in this Silent Show are:
1. Reading T1 4-8-4 2101 on the American Freedom Train in the 70s with pacing scenes & even newly restored SP Daylight 4449 doing the honors
2. Burlington 2-8-2 4960 which is now at Arizona’s Grand Canyon Railway
3. GTW 2-8-2 4070 on a fan trip with scenes from the coaches & the cab
4. GTW 4-8-4 6218 in the snow with a cab ride as well
5. Another Reading T1 4-8-4 number 2102 also on a fan trip with a ride as well
6. Union Pacific’s never-retired northern 844 as 8444 from 1962 to 1989 with a ride as well
7. Rio Grande Narrow Gauge from Durango to Silverton CO with 478
8. GTW with 4-6-2 5629 (sadly gone for scrap)
9. Northwestern Steel & Wire with 0-8-0s switching cars filled with scrap with a cameo from a C&NW GP7 & a GM&O Steam Crane
And 10. the East Broad Top in Pennsylvania with Mikados 12, 14, & 17 plus Motorcar M-1 (which is the longest segment)
If I could improve one thing to add to this program, it would be instrumental music just like what the late Greg Scholl did to his vintage shows.
