Steam to Squamish Experience the sights and sounds of steam railroading as we visit BC Rail’s magnificent operation by riding Steam to Squamish! British Columbia’s coastal mountains are a majestic and impressive site for operating steam trains. The sounds of engines echoing off rock cliffs and sights of smoke lingering along the shoreline have a magical quality about them.

Ride the cab of steam locomotive 2860, the famous Royal Hudson, from North Vancouver to Squamish and watch as the crew goes about its task of firing and operating this classic steam engine. While in the cab you’ll get the crew’s view of the tracks ahead and hear those wonderful sounds of pounding rods and stack talk as the engine works up the line. BC Rail also operates consolidation number 3716. We’ll follow this recently rebuilt locomotive on a journey up along the rugged coast line to Squamish. These trains operate over one of the most beautiful and scenic lines in North America. 42 minutes.

C&O 614 leads the Chessie System Safety Express Chessie organized a series of excursions most commonly known as the Chessie Safety Express, promoting Operation Lifesaver and grade-crossing safety. These were the first excursions behind newly restored steam locomotive 614. Its coal tender was lettered “Chessie System Railroads”, and its auxiliary water tender was given a special Safety Express logo. 30 Minutes.

It was awesome to ride in the cab of CP 2860 through the beautiful countryside, I also loved listening to the sounds of C&O 614 as it heads the Chessie Safety Express I highly recommend this to any Pentrex fan.

In the steam to Squamish portion of this combo, 2 engines that were originally built for Canadian pacific are shown here: consolidation 3716 which is still operating at the kettle valley scenic railroad, & royal Hudson 2860 which includes a neat cab ride. Keep in mind that this portion of the combo was made during production of another pentrex title: BC rail cab ride-From Sea to Sky.

In the chessie safety express portion of the combo which was one of the very first programs to be made by main line motion pictures, C&O 614 operates on multiple trips for the Chessie system in 1980 & 1981 only. Which includes some preparations at the workshops. Besides MLMP, other producers like Sunday River, Hopewell, & even Greg Scholl were also there for these trips that will never be repeated again. After the proposed American coal enterprises throughout January 1985, 614 was last operated from 1996-1998 on the New Jersey transit. Like the royal Hudson in Canada, 614 is still standing silent.
