From John Bull to Big Boy. This color documentary is hosted by longtime railfan and video producer Bill Warrick. In 30 minutes, we’ll go from wagons and horses (The first race between a wagon and a steam locomotive was won by the horse and wagon) and ship and boats on canals to the modern super power era. Bill clearly loves the subject and through vintage film, music and prose, he shows why we miss The Great Era of Steam.

Additional footage of early locomotives (or reconstructions) has been provided by Pentrex. Footage of the “Golden Spike” reenactment has also been added. Remastered and color corrected in 2022.

While most of this program contains vintage films of normal steam engines in service, there are a handful of modern era shots like shay number 7 in the exact start of this program that is now at the Hesston Steam Museum in the Indiana Michigan State Line, & also some highlights from Vancouver Steam Expo 1986.

Thanks to railfan depot for a freebie. Although it is a 30 minute long video, this one is a must have for any steam enthusiast.

  4. Jeremy C. Schultz

To Tim and all the other wonderful folks at Railfan Depot, thanks again for offering this for free in the limited-time holiday season promotion. Although a very brief overview with different footage compiled by Pentrex, this remastered version is well worth your time. đŸ™‚

Got this DVD in the 12 days of Christmas promotion, it was well worth the $0.00 I spent on it! It may only be 30 Minutes long, however, it was a very enjoyable 30 minutes. My 5 year old son insists on watching it whenever he see’s me watching TV.
