And when they’re running in a spectacular location, like the Feather River Canyon, it’s magic! There’s lots of great action in this video, captured on a special excursion weekend. The E9s are in fine form, making several trips across the popular Keddie Wye. They also show their stuff while powering through the windy Altamont Pass.

In this 2005 DVD, a flashback to the 90s was made as E units 949, 951 & B-unit 963 are operating a special excursion through the Feather River Canyon & Altamont Pass in Northern California, which also includes some radio communications.
Locations include Pugh, Rock Creek Trestle along state route 70, Keddie Wye which is the starting Southernmost point of BNSF’s Gateway Subdivision, Clico Trestle, Williams Loop, Spring Garden Curve, The twin bridges of Tobin, the Feather River Dam, Altamont Pass, Westwood, the Sacramento area, the bridges of Pulga where a meet was made with one double-stack that has a Chicago & Northwestern SD40-2 in the Consist, the bridges of Clear Creek junction, the Hungry Hunt Peak Tunnels, & ends at Oroville.
All in all, like most titles by Machines of Iron, as well as programs from Hopewell, Berkshire Productions, & the O Gauge Railroading Magazine videos, the steam engineer for Nickel Plate Road 765 Rich Melvin did a marvelous job narrating this short film.
