In Part One of this heralded former New York Central mainline, we observe CSX operations on the Chicago Line between Syracuse and Ripley, NY near the Pennsylvania border. These scenes were shot just 5 weeks after the Conrail split date of June 1, 1999.
This is a bygone era of CSX. You will see lots of Conrail blue in addition to CSX units of all kinds. The railroad was short on motive power so there’s plenty of foreign power seen as well. Operations at this time were a bit disrupted but there were still plenty of fast intermodal trains polishing the rails. See lots of 2nd generation power with their unique sounds, plus brand new AC6000CW���s with their 6000 horsepower prime movers. Several NS trains on the parallel ex Nickel Plate Railroad are also seen.
