Louisville, Kentucky, known as the River City for its perch on a dramatic bend of the Ohio River, played host to a large streetcar and suburban/interurban streetcar system. From a single line of little cars pulled by horses, a series of lines emerged until the they combined to form the Louisville Railway Company, creating a huge system reaching all parts of the city with 500 streetcars.
Historians George Yater and Jim Calvert present the story of The Louisville Railway Company and its subsidiary The Louisville & Interurban Railway, a system of lines that branched out in seven directions to Louisville’s rapidly expanding suburbs and neighboring towns. It’s a chapter of Louisville history spanning 110 years. This history is illustrated with maps and photos and rare movies of the streetcars in action! Narrated by Bert Pence. Recommended for anyone interested in the history of Louisville, Kentucky, Streetcars or interurban Railways.
