Streetcars of River City, Trolleys and Interurbans of Louisville

Louisville, Kentucky, known as the River City for its perch on a dramatic bend of the Ohio River, played host to a large streetcar and suburban/interurban streetcar system. From a single line of little cars pulled by horses, a series of lines emerged until the they combined to form the Louisville Railway Company, creating a huge system reaching all parts of the city with 500 streetcars.

Historians George Yater and Jim Calvert present the story of The Louisville Railway Company and its subsidiary The Louisville & Interurban Railway, a system of lines that branched out in seven directions to Louisville’s rapidly expanding suburbs and neighboring towns. It’s a chapter of Louisville history spanning 110 years. This history is illustrated with maps and photos and rare movies of the streetcars in action! Narrated by Bert Pence.
