Located in the quiet Amish farmlands of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania are two fine examples of our American railroad heritage, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and the Strasburg Rail Road.

In this video we’ll visit the museum, and we’ll tell you a little about its history and development. Then we’ll go across the street to the Strasburg Rail Road, the oldest operating shortline railroad in the United States today.

In the cab and trackside, you’ll see locomotives 31, 90, and 7002 pulling train loads of passengers through the scenic Lancaster countryside.

Then comes the highlight of the show, as the 7002 and the 1223 are on the point of a special steam doubleheader! You’ll see these two ex-Pennsylvania locomotives running on home rails from Strasburg to Harrisburg and back. The locomotives cross the massive Rockville Viaduct, and then race back to Strasburg on the former Pennsylvania Railroad main line.

After watching this video, we’re sure you’ll agree that in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, “Steam Still Stands”.

Berkshire Productions is one of my favorite producers in railfan entertainment, this one is what of the best ones they made. You get to a doubleheader with the PRR 1223 & PRR 7002 on the Keystone Corridor, some shots at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, and steam action at the famous Strasburg Railroad, showing the PRR 1223 & 7002 operating at the Strasburg as well as the Great Western 90, and Canadian National 31 (Then numbered as 7312). This is definitely one I would suggest getting! This one shows a lot of action of a long gone era of excursion trains.

Throughout 1985, the Berkshire/Hopewell crew visited Lancaster County for a look at not only the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, but also plenty of action on the Strasburg Railroad with Great Western 90, Canadian National 7312 as 31, & Pennsylvania 1223. The Motive power, the look at the coaches, Both ends of the line, the Crossing at Carpenters, & even the area at Cherry Hill crossing near Groff’s Grove have since been changed a lot over the years. The Major highlight of the program was a June 1985 doubleheader with 1223 & 7002 from the tourist railroad depot headquarters to downtown Harrisburg with a photo runby at the Rockville Bridge that also has a meet of a 3 car Amtrak Passenger Train. Other producers like Walter Berko productions & Mark 1 video were also there for the June ’85 doubleheader. Today, these 2 steam stars of the Pennsylvania railroad are still on display at a museum which is across the street from the Strasburg station, but at least the engineer of NKP 765 Rich Melvin did a marvelous job narrating this program.
