For 125 years, the Pennsylvania Railroad was the leader of its industry and proudly called itself the Standard Railroad of the World. Now, for the first time, two outstanding video productions about the Pennsy have been combined into one DVD for your total viewing entertainment! Everything that is the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad is here in more than two hours of archival footage and direct from PRR produced publicity films. Featuring The Pennsylvania Railroad Collection and The Standard Railroad of the World:

The Standard Railroad of the World
The mighty Pennsy is well represented in this superb video biography. You’ll see steam, diesel, and electric power including K-4s and GG-1s, T1 Duplex 4-4-4-4s, shiny E-units, and even doodlebugs. Penn and Washington Union Stations are shown and you’ll enjoy images of the Broadway and Congressional Limiteds. Also featured are the Northeast Corridor (including the Long Island Railroad) and commuters; inclined planes of the 1830s; Horseshoe Curve, Rockville Bridge, and Enola Yards; the wreck of the Federal Express and the birth of the Metroliners. Producer and director Bill Warrick spent years poring over archival footage and data and the result is this milestone production. Color and B&W.

The Pennsylvania Collection
The Pennsylvania Railroad of the 1950s was a railroading show unlike anything else. With powerful duplex-drive T1s, classic GG-1 electrics, and “next generation” cab unit diesels, the Pennsy was truly a class act. In this video you’ll get to sample that era through a collection of previously released Pennsylvania Railroad publicity films. Included are: “Progress on Rails”, “Wheels of Steel”, “Opening a New Frontier”, and “Clear Track Ahead”. B&W.

  1. Mike

This is a decent perspective on the history of the Pennsylvania railroad from beginning to end. The photography is pretty well captured ansd the narration serves the purpose of providing the viewer with interesting information throughout the entire production.

  2. rrvideoman

The Pennsylvania Railroad was truly one of the greatest railroads in world history. From the giant Steam 4-4-4-4’s to the Electric GG-1’s to the finest Diesels of the time, it was always of interest to all railfans. There is a huge amount of history in this video, combined with some very scenic locations. The educational value is very good, as we witness some great railroading action. However, I did find that there some difficulty understanding the video as some of it is a general group of short films, and the narration could have been better. As a Combo, there are 2 different videos on this presentation. “The Standard Railroad of the World” was good enough for a 4/5 rating, but I was not overly impressed with “The Pennsylvania Collection” which is a group of smaller films. I found some it it hard to follow. Although I am not disappointed in the purchase, my final rating after viewing this video a few times was 3/5. Not a bad video, just not what I was hoping for.

  3. Everywhere West

These are scenes that can not not be replicated. And equipment that is no longer running and in many cases not preserved either. The only downside is that I wish there was more!
