In this epic video you will see diverse railroad operations in the picturesque area around Lancaster Pennsylvania. Everything from big steam, little steam, electric and diesel, including Amtrak, short line and Norfolk Southern. This program was shot in September and October of 2019.
See N&W 611 and N&W 475 powering Strasburg tourist trains followed by 611 and 475 (475 was renumbered to 382) operating on a photo charter a week later. Fabulous runbys in the scenic Amish countryside. Witness Amtrak electric and diesel operations on the Amtrak Harrisburg Line in areas around Lancaster, Pennsylvania We also see Strasburg #90 doing some runarounds at Leaman Place alongside the Amtrak line.
Next we will witness heavy duty Norfolk Southern action on their Harrisburg Line west of Reading. We will spend a busy morning/early afternoon at Sinking Spring getting numerous freights along with the East Penn Railway turn to Reading with its colorful paint scheme. We finish with action the next day at Robesonia, a scenic crossing east of Richland, Richland proper, and Lebanon. The Pennsylvania Dutch Country has much to offer with its variety of trains and scenic rural countryside and is a popular and picturesque destination for railfans in a state rich in railroad history.

In this recent Sequel/Companion to Pennsylvania Highlights 2019 from the angles of Sean Bodine which was filmed at the exact same time that this program was made, there is a big parade of action on the Strasburg Railroad with not only 475 on normal passenger trains & a freight special that was renumbered to 382, but there is also a visit from the queen of steam & the Thoroughbred of steam: 611. Here the J class northern built in 1950 also operates normal Strasburg trips with a ride aboard the open-air coach behind 611, & even participating with 475/382 built by Baldwin in 1906 on a Pete Lerro Productions freight special. Aside from the Norfolk & Western Steam Reunion, Great Western 90 is also included as well as the railroad’s own New York Central SW8 number 8618.
After the Strasburg Steam segments, there is a lot of electrified action on Amtrak’s Philadelphia to Harrisburg Line with ACS-64’s in charge, as well as plenty of Norfolk Southern’s Mainline Freights, & even a visit to the East Penn Shortline.
Unlike Pennsylvania Highlights 2019, this program doesn’t have a segment on the Reading & Northern with GM&N 425, but there is still more to explore in the Keystone State.
Like the Odyssey series, this is one of the Longest Green Frog Titles ever made.
This program was filmed & narrated by Mr. Tim Hosey who used to work for a video company called TrainFans.
