Seven trips to the Altoona area between 1954 to 1976 form the basis for this look at one of the most important transitions in American railroading, Pennsylvania Railroad to Penn Central to Conrail. Not only do we feature three of the largest railroads on the continent, but we do it across the last days of steam and through dieselization, and then into public ownership of the rails.
Our journey is on crisp 16mm film, with authentic PRR sound. On the journey we’ll see the railroad temples of the Pennsylvania: Horseshoe Curve, Altoona Yard, and action at Tyrone, Bell Tower, Alto Tower and Gallitzin. Steam classes include M1, I1, J1, H9 and H10 and diesels from the major builders: Baldwin, EMD, ALCO, and GE. Color and B&W film.
