The Southern Railway’s steam locomotives were greatly beloved. In this program you’ll enjoy great action featuring three Southern steam locomotives. See two days of great photo charters at Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum featuring 2-8-0 #630 and 2-8-2 #4501. You’ll enjoy several runbys on Museum trackage, as well as a doubleheaded trip on the mainline to Summerville, Georgia. Then we go to the Monticello Railway Museum where 2-8-0 #401 puts on a show between the museum and downtown Monticello, Illinois.

We’ll climb in the cab of #630 and get a rare steam cab ride. #630 joins #4501 for a double-header between Grand Junction and East Chattanooga.

Again the #630 and #4501 pair doublehead to Summerville. Finally Southern #401 gives us some good steam action runbys on the ex-IC line to Monticello.

In the Railway Productions version of the Spring 2018 Southern Railway Steam Freight Specials, 630, 4501, & 401 are operating various freight trains that were sponsored by Pete Lerro Productions for the 630/4501 Doubleheader in March, as well as Southern Rail Productions for 401 the following May.

Aside from the Spring 2018 freight specials, there is also a cab ride on 630 during the TVRM’s Missionary Ridge Local from the Grand Junction Wye, to the Museum Shops a couple of days prior to the doubleheader with 4501. The driver on the cab ride portion is Travis Gordon for the westbound trip to the shops, & Brian Hunt for the eastbound return trip to the wye. Which also includes Run-by angles of the 3 coach consist.

Apparently enough during the spring 2018 freight specials, other producers were there as well: Ron Burkhard for Greg Scholl Video’s Southern Steam Variety & Southern Doubleheaders, James Parfrey of Steam Train Videos for the 630/4501 doubleheader in the title: in search of steam volume 2-The Best of 2018, & Diverging Clear productions for the 401 Segment in Steamin’ in 2018.

This is the second RP title to be filmed at the TVRM since Steam in the Summer from 2005 back when former US Army 2-8-0 number 610 was in action, but it hasn’t lit up its firebox since 2010.

On the second day of the 630/4501 Doubleheader, there is some onboard footage behind Tennessee Alabama & Georgia High Hood GP38 number 80 with the 2 steam engines sandwiched between the coaches for the photographers, & the special freight as it heads for Rossville Georgia on the Summerville Line as well as on the return trip at sunset. The 630/4501 doubleheader is the longest segment in this
    program.

At Monticello, 401 is at the shops with Illinois Central Diesel 8733 as the steamer is making preparations.
