We see some real classic, and real crisp, 16mm film color footage of Southern Pacific Daylights, Cab Forwards, and other power in beautiful western scenery. We also dig into SP safety films to grab some high quality steam shots.
Then we add Joseph Schmitz’s 8mm footage of a 1954 visit to the Taylor Roundhouse in Los Angeles followed by a live his sound footage of a Cab Forward at Oakland, San Francisco. This film also features steam commuter trains in 1955. Then we chase Cab Forwards and AC-9 3805 on the Modoc Line. There are some long pacing scenes of Cab Forwards, all in color and with live sound!
I think you’ll be amazed at how well the 8mm film has transferred to video. We sent it to a professional lab for a liquid gate transfer and some of it looks really stunning.

Amazing footage of Southern Pacific steam power in action with sound, the commuter trains in San Francsico were awesome to watch especially with MT class 4-8-2’s and GS class 4-8-4’s. The incredible cab-forwards on the Modoc line were cool and an AC-9 in action has brought a spectacular sight. This is the first Herron Rail video I bought for my train video collection
