It’s 1992, and railfan Bob Ernst set out to document Kansas City’s largest railroad presence, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. We begin our look at the Santa Fe in Kansas City at Argentine Yard and from there visit many railfan locations around the Kansas City area. 1992 was prior to merger mania and se we see a lot of fallen flags too.

This program was shot using good “prosumer” equipment of the time, but is not up to the clarity of today’s high-definition video. It is however an excellent snapshot of an important time and place in the nation’s railroad history.

For many railfans, “Kansas City” and “Santa Fe” will always be synonymous. And it might take more than one viewing to fully appreciate the historic and nostalgic value of this program. Everything you’ll see … the locomotive types, the color schemes, the freight consists and the setting itself … is unforgettable. In 1992 … as it is today … Kansas City was one of America’s railroad hot spots, and virtually every scene includes a “Wow!” moment. Don’t miss this one … and get ready to press the “replay” button as soon as it ends.

Lots of trains, period. Kansas City is a railfan hot spot, and here is the reason why….. at the time this video was made there was at least 12 different railroad names to be seen in the city, and we get to see them here. Bonus is the Amtrak & the UP steam train on an excursion run through the city. Excellent video

SHOT IN THE EARLY 1990’S, FILM DOCUMENT’S THE KANSAS CITY RAIL SYSTEM. SEE ANGENINE YARD WITH ALL THE ACTION INCLUDING VIEWS OF THE C-40-86’S IN ACTION IN AND AROUND KANSAS CITY. SEE LOTS OF OLDER EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING A 3751. GREAT SCENERY AND IN YOUR FACE ACTION AND LOADS OF INFORMATION. 54 MINUTES LONG AND 4 STARS.

  4. Josh

This is a must see for any Santa Fe fan! You will see lots of older power not seen in today’s era of railroading and 3751 makes an appearance. This is a dvd that will make you want to watch it over and over again.

  5. nssd60e

This is a good look into early 90’s Santa Fe operations in and around Kansas city, See the C40-8w’s when they were new and classic Santa Fe geeps leading mainline freights.
