In the American Altavista Version of the November 1992 countdown to Christmas train specials on CSX, Union Pacific Challenger 3985 made a very rare once in a lifetime visit from Cheyenne Wyoming to CSX territory where it was disguised as Clinchfield 676 for the 50th anniversary of the Santa Claus trains.

Some of these scenes were also used in another American Altavisita title called Quick Shots 2, & aside from Bob Loehne’s multi-camera crew, other railroad video producers were also there for a really rare event that would never be repeated in future years: Pentrex, Main Line Motion Pictures, Mark 1 Video, Ken & Ron Durham of Lasting Impressions, & of course the late America By Rail Co-Creator Greg Scholl.

Speaking of which, some of Bob’s onboard footages from inside the cab of 3985/676 as well as on the rear of the train was also used in the original VHS editing of Greg’s version of the Challenger’s CSX trips.

On the same month but 30 years later, 3985 was officially retired for operating on the UP, & it had since been moved to it’s new home at Silvis Illinois with not only Centennial Unit 6936, but also 2-10-2 5511 as all 3 are on the road back to operational condition.

Of Course as we all know at one time from 1981-2010, 3985 was the largest operating steam engine in the modern era, until that name was overtaken by Big Boy 4014 in late April & Early May 2019.
