CSX crests the Allegheny Mountains in Pennsylvania at Sand Patch summit. This famous line has been a favorite of railfans for decades. Here is an up-to-date look at the former B&O line. We’ll explore the east slope from Cooks Mills to the summit in fall and in spring. Older power fights the unrelenting westbound grade, often with manned helpers. This is real mountain railroading.

The narration can be turned off and on. Dolby audio.

This is a solid presentation from HBP that takes you from Cook Mills Rd to Sand Patch. Released in 2011 all of the spots featured are still accessible today. Great camera work, For covering just the east section of Sand Patch each spot was well used at different times of day as well as different seasons and weather conditions. Audio is well done and well captured. Narration is great, short and sweet. The inclusion of mile markers for locations as well as train ID’s is a very nice touch. Half of the program is filmed at one point in time and the other half was filmed during fall colors. All in all a great production by HBP.

In the sequel to 1992’s Sand Patch Weekend, there are lots of diesels on CSX, Seaboard, Wheeling & Lake Erie (Similar colors of the Rio Grande), BNSF, Union Pacific, Kansas City Southern, Amtrak’s Capitol Limited & other surprises like the Lorain Ditcher on the double track mainline between Cumberland Maryland & Pittsburgh Pennsylvania at locations like Cooks Mills, Hyndman, Brackens, Fairhope, the tunnel at Falls Cut, Foley Overlook, Milepost 200.6, Glencoe, MP 204.75, MP 205, MP 206, The log cabin & Horseshoe Curve at Mance, the S curve at Manilla, Sand Patch at Milepost 211, & Milepost 200.9

Motive power from SD40-2s & SD60s to the since been retired Standard & wide cab C40-8s are included as these scenes are photographed in both the Spring & the lovely fall colors on the trees.

Great scenery, great power, a must see fir any csx fan. As always great video quality from high ball productions. See some nitty gritty mountain railroading. See manned helpers pushing heavy trains up the grade.
