Our day of shooting Ohio Rail Diamonds begins in Fostoria, where we see CSX trains, including ones from Toledo connecting to the east-west mainline, and trains on that line going both directions. Then we move east to Attica Junction where the same Pittsburgh/Cleveland CSX mainline crosses the Norfolk Southern line between Columbus and Belleview. Then it’s back to Fostoria to see action at the western diamond where NS (former NKP) crosses CSX at the old B&O depot.
Then we head west to Deshler Ohio where the east-west line toward Chicago crosses the Toledo Subdivision that runs from Cincinnati to Toledo. Trains also connect to the east-west line here as many trains head east from Cincinnati or south from the east. Our next stop is at Leipsic Junction located south of Deshler. This is the crossing of the former B&O Toledo-Cincinnati line, with the former Nickel Plate (now NS) line between Fostoria and Ft. Wayne. An abandoned Tower guards the diamond. We see a nice variety of motive power and trains for this day long shoot which takes us back to Deshler to end the day, as we see a transcontinental container train that is two miles long cross the diamond as another train diverges alongside it.
We have added two more related segments to this day-long diamond shoot. First we include footage from 2005 when we spent a morning in Deshler. This has some glorious morning lighting, as we see 12 trains in a span of 3 hours. We did not spend a lot of time in Deshler in our 2006 day of diamond shooting, so this 2005 segment is a nice addition. It is not narrated, but has live audio. Then we wrap up the program with a Flash-back to 1991 and a few trains that we saw at Leipsic Tower and in Lima. We see some now retired 4-axle power, and a couple of surprises.
The main portion of this program is shot in widescreen format, but the 2005 Deshler segment, and the 1991 Leipsic segments are in standard 4:3. There is a lot to see in Ohio Rail Diamonds.

The theme of this program is Ohio Rail Diamonds. Locations featured include Fostoria, Attica Junction, Deshler, and Leipsic Junction. Maps are shown but could have been up longer with a little more explanation.

Well in this DVD, there are 3 days revealed which included in the main show was exactly April 27, 2006 (the first widescreen segment on a gsvp show) which includes an uncut blooper at fostoria station with a bnsf freight and you can see greg’s hand on camera. There was also 12 trains on Sunday September 4, 2005, as well as a flashback to August 3, 1991 (The JVC era), for not only some freights with one Military train, but also some extended scenes of Pere Marquette 1225, and NKP 765 double heading to depart Lima on its way to Huntington, WV for the NRHS convention. That’s another story on the steam in Huntington video.

For railfans, anytime we see a train, it stirs a bit of excitement, but when it is at a diamond it is extra exciting as a heavy train hammers the crossing. Northwestern Onio is an area with plenty of diamonds. Greg Scholl takes us to several locations to catch the action. Attica Junction and the CSX/NS crossing, Fostoria with it’s 3 diamonds, Leipsic and some steam action, and the best of them all… Deshler and the Crossroads Railfan Park. The action is plenty, and the views are great. Many different angles of the diamonds are seen. There is no shortage of power and variety of power with NS, CSX, run through, and leased power. And a few surprises along the way. It is a video that all railfans will enjoy many times over. A “must have” for all to see.
