The St. Maries River Railroad operates one of the last segments of former Milwaukee Road trackage in Idaho and even uses ex-Milwaukee Road GP9’s and SW1200’s. See the STMA switch the St. Maries lumber mills and haul heavy lumber trains to a Union Pacific connection at Plummer.
The Pend Oreille Valley Railroad also handles forest products and is based out of Usk, Washington on ex-Milwaukee Road trackage. Plus ex-Great Northern Ry trackage from Newport, WA to a connection with the BNSF at Sandpoint, ID. This line travels along the scenic mountain valley of the Pend Oreille River. In Part 2 of the Plets Express’ Northwest Shortlines & Regionals series, there are a variety of diesels on both the Pend Orielle Valley, & the St. Maries River with other road names like BNSF, Canadian Pacific, Santa Fe, CitiRail, CSX, & Union Pacific shot in 2017, not to mention Amtrak’s Empire Builder which Brad forgot to mention that the passenger train when going west, Splits into 2 independent trains: one to Portland Oregon, & the other to Seattle, plus a country themed music video at the beginning of this program at locations like the Funnel near Sandpoint Idaho, St. Maries’ Storage Yard with the 1908 depot, Benewah Lake Bridge Pedee Creek Bridge, Plummer, Chatcolect Lake, Newport Washington, Usk Yard, Dalkena, Albeni Falls Dam, Priest River Bridge, Alongside the Pend Orielle River, & Dover.
