More than 100 trains at many different locations in the Wolverine State – this is the Best of Michigan. We’ll see Canadian National trains on ex-Grand Trunk routes and Norfolk Southern on ex-Wabash routes. We’ll cover Conrail and CSX lines too.

Locations include Wyandotte, Durand, Carleton, Romulus, Detroit, Lapeer, Delray Junction, Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Port Huron, Wixom, Dearborn and the yards at Flat Rock and Oakwood.

This is vintage nineties footage, shot using nineties equipment. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes, many not covered elsewhere, and the narration is informative and top notch.

First off, for sheer volume this DVD is a BARGAIN. Weighing in at 2 hours & 20 minutes, you get a lot of excellent train video action for your dollar spent.

That said, if you like late 1990s railroading, this is an excellent DVD based on content as well. Michigan has a ton of RR traffic in state, as well as a great amount of cross-continental runs so there’s great variety in the types of trains in the DVD.

You’ll get plenty of CR, CSX, NS, CN & CP, as well as GTW, BNSF (BN & ATSF too). There’s also some time with the Indiana & Ohio, as well as both Amtrak & VIA passenger trains.

The DVD gets around to a good number of MI locations, but the standouts are the crossings/interchanges at Carlton MI and Delray Junction (industrial Detroit area).

Lastly, BIG kudos go to the producers for almost always providing the train ID/number, where it originated and where it will go to. (Often with even greater detail on ultimate destinations.) This is invaluable info, as I model the Chicago area and many of these trains will ultimately depart from or pass through my layout area, so it’s a great reference/resource.

I have been wheary of buying videos of modern railroad operations just because it is so available. This goes beyond the normal. Very well put together and an interesting video. I love seeing these unique lines in operation as every one of them have their own characteristics.

I bought this video and thought it was quite well put together. Talked to a friend and co-worker about it one day and it turns out it was his footage used in the video. Gary Melford did a great job shooting this footage and if you like railroading around Detroit this video is excellent.
