Sitting in Eastern Nebraska is railroad hot spot Grand Island. Until the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Merger, the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern crossed at a set of diamonds. BNSF replaced the diamonds with a flyover that carries the BNSF Ravenna Sub over the Union Pacific’s Columbus Sub. Nebraska Diamonds was filmed over two trips in in Spring and early Fall 1988. A Variety of power could be seen during this time, from Oakway SD60’s and LMC B39-8E’s as well locomotives from the Chicago and Northwestern. This is Volume 7 in the George Redmond Railfanning series.
NOTE: No narration. This is vintage eighties footage, shot using equipment of the time. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes of long-gone railroads and equipment.
