With the news of Canadian Pacific acquiring the KCS, we set out for an 8 day tour of the KCS covering many locations along the Meridian Speedway and beyond. Lots of early spring sunshine and some nice surprises, with the beautiful “Retro Belle” paint scheme dominating the trains that we filmed!

Running for over 320 miles between Meridian, Mississippi and Shreveport, Louisiana is a stretch of railroad known as “The Meridian Speedway”. This route was developed during the mid 1990s from the lines of the former MidSouth Railroad. Great action on the “Speedway” plus yard action at Shreveport, Jackson and Vicksburg.

For me this is the best KCS tape I ever saw.
Every minutes of the DVD worth the price.
    Great job by broken Knuckle.

Over the years, there have been many videos made covering this line. Broken Knuckle has done a fine job seeing the Meridian Speedway in it’s closing hours before the Canadian Pacific take over.
It was good seeing other railroad power along the way… UP, NS, CN & a CP engine, along with some shortlines.
I was especially impressed with the segment where the line crosses the Mississippi River, showing the railroad & the highway on the same bridge. I had hoped to see more than 3 or 4 locations in Louisiana, as it appears the videographer crosses the State a little to fast. However, knowing the distance people travel to see the area, it is understanding with the time available. A really fine job is done following the KCS business train, something we may never see ever again.
I did find that the narration was difficult to hear & understand a lot of the time. You really need to keep your finger on the remote volume button as the trains are very loud & the narration is on the quieter side. (Living in an apartment complex, I think I scared the neighbours above us a few times when not getting the sound turned down quick enough when a train was blowing it’s horn, while waiting for the narration to start again. Good thing that they know I am a railfan 🙂 🙂 ).
Overall…. well pleased with this production. The content makes it worth owning.
