Pay a visit to the Ozark region of Mid-America and the Kansas City Southern’s Heavener Subdivision. Running from Pittsburg, Kansas to Heavener, Oklahoma, this is an interesting route for the train watcher. With a sawtooth profile, dramatic elevation changes, and a twisty-curvy railroad, the KCS crosses the Ozark’s Springfield Plateau and the Boston Mountains.

The KCS offers an interesting variety of motive power including ES44AC’s and SD70ACe’s to GP40-3’s plus run-through locomotives of BNSF and Union Pacific.

You’ll also see several KCS depots along the way. There’s lots to see on the Heavener Sub! An interesting look at this colorful Class I railroad!

In this long-awaited sequel to KCS Over the Mountain, there is a big parade of diesels on this unique mainline during its final months of independent service before it was purchased by both Canadian National & Canadian Pacific.

Locations aside from Pittsburg Kansas & Heavener Oklahoma, include Asbury, Joplin, Neosho, Goodman, Anderson, and Noel Missouri. Plus, Sulphur Springs, Decatur, Gentry, & Siloam Springs Arkansas. As well as Watts, Westville, Baron, Stilwell, Marble City, Sallisaw, Gans, Spiro, Panama, Poteau, & Howe Oklahoma. Along the way, the freight trains will wind and climb through the Boston Mountains as well as negotiating through countless bends.

There are lots of motive power on the KCS like the ES44AC built in 2007 to 2014, the SD70ACE built in 2003 to 2015, the GP40-3 built between 1968-1972, and the former BNSF Dash 9-44CWs. Aside from KCS & BNSF, other road names are featured like Progress rail SD70ACEs, & even Union Pacific ES44ACs known as the AC45TTEE units not to mention BNSF SD70ACEs.

Aside from ground scenes, there are a handful of drone angles from the sky.

All in all, Les Jarrett did a fine job narrating this program as well as a neat job filming the KCS before it was purchased by CN & CP.
