This is the story of two late-afternoon/early-evening westbound trains, #112 and #224, as they travel the still busy but seldom seen Norfolk Southern St. Louis District. Besides run-bys at several locations, we take you “Alongside the Thunder” as they race toward the sunset, over the roller-coaster-like terrain of Eastern Missouri.
This is rural railroading at its best. Watch several trains powered by SD60s and other high horsepower diesels as they scream westward hauling heavy-tonnage trains, making their connections in Kansas City with BNSF and other railroads. Norfolk Southern of the late-90s is more than dash-9 wide cabs. Enjoy a variety of diesels from both EMD and GE, including these units: SD40-2, SD60, SD70, GP38-2, GP60, C30-7 and more.

Interesting in it’s own way. The line covered does not have a lot of video coverage, so I thought that it would be a good purchase. I enjoyed the train chases that are seen, and the high nose hoods of the Norfolk Southern. If you expect to see the line covered from one end to the other….. forget it. The producer bounces all over the line. You never know what you will see next. While screen graphics are used, there are very few dates given. I had to use google to track the line after seeing a rough map at the beginning. You really need to be interested in the region and a big NS fan to have any interest in the video. Overall……. a disappointment with some interest.
