From the camera of Arthur Purchase, NostalgiaRail brings you a comprehensive look at the Chicago and Illinois Midland Railroad, one of the most overlooked railroads in Central Illinois. We will take a year by year look at the C&M starting in 1996 and ending in 2005, after the road was purchased by Genesee and Wyoming and renamed the Illinois Midland. Plenty of action is seen around Springfield, IL, Powerton and Parkersburg Hill, The only two EMD RS1325 ever built are seen hard at work on locals and unit coal trains across the system. You will also see rare video of the roads SD38-2’s working on home rails, as these units were seldom seen and were often leased out to other railroads. Every model of locomotive that the C&IM roistered is seen in this program, including the SD9’s and the two SD18’s.

This is vintage nineties footage, shot using nineties equipment. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes of long-gone railroads and equipment.

Bought this video a few months ago at the Monticello Railroad Museum. I have to say, this is one outstanding program, well researched and just enough narration to keep the viewer interested

While the audio may be soft, you have to realize that this is old footage, which adds to its charm. While yes, it is not a modern HD video, you have to remember, the independent C&IM was gone by the time HD videos started rolling out, heck, shortly before DVD’s were introduced.

My favorite part of the video was footage of four SD’s lugging a loaded coal train up Petersburgh hill. Oh the sweet sound of 567’s hard at work in notch 8!

I normally don’t write reviews, but when I saw the video for sale here, I was compelled to let everyone know, you should buy this video!
