On a cold and rainy Friday, October 11th, 2019, NostalgiaRAIL ventured to Chesterton, IN to film an entire days worth of railroad action on the Norfolk Southern’s ex-Conrail Chicago Line. We spent thirteen and a half hours at Riley’s Railhouse Bed and Breakfast from 5:45 AM to 7:15 PM

During that time, 50 trains came past the cameras. Those trains came from not only Norfolk Southern, but also the Canadian Pacific and Amtrak. The highlights of the day including the passing of THREE heritage Units, The Central of New Jersey, the Interstate and Union Pacific 1988, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas, not to mention the Norfolk Southern “Barcode” unit, 1111,which was seen twice!

You will see all sorts of different trains in the program, coal, coke, intermodal, mixed freight, autoracks and locals! There is never a dull moment of action in Chesterton. If you have never been, add it to your list of must visit railroad hot spots!

Non stop action, 3 heritage units, the barcode unit and great footage brings this slice-of-life type video as a full day of railroad action is seen. A must have for any NS fan. While it seemed to rain most of the day, that did not affect the amount of action or quality of photography.

Each train is identified in a black box amtgat included the symbols, motive power, origination and destination along with the time made this a very interesting program.

My only complaint is when the camera supposedly glitched and missed the power of one of the trains, while the Interstate heritage unit was seen on passing behind that train.

Worth every penny and re-watchable over and over again.
