The BN, and the years that lead up to it. A true to style Charles Smiley movie. Plenty of locations along the BN line and the companies that became a part of the BN. Power ranges from the Steamers to diesels, the the early Zephyrs, from a wide variety of rail companies. Fallen Flags from eastern railroad make appearances with time in Chicago and Illinois. There is a short segment of a Canadian Pacific diesel train in the Rockies from the 1980’s, and one Canadian National steam train from the 1950’s. The History is well told, along with maps from the merger railroads and from the Rock Island RR included to give a great perspective of the vastness of the BN empire. Extra notes include the Inside Gateway, why it was important, and scenes from some areas including trains on Keddie Wye and Williams Loop. The movie closes with a look at today’s modern BNSF with scenes from Sandpoint Idaho and street running in Fort Collins Colorado. An excellent movie on the BN as many of us know it, and how the BN came to be what it is today. Highly recommended to all railfans, even if not a BN fan.
