Join us for a tour of the electric railways in and around Chicago and Milwaukee and points in between. View footage captured on 16mm film by the noted photographer David J. Williams III. David captured all the action in the 50s and 60s on both color and black & white film. In addition, 1920s archival promo films of the Chicago, North Shore, and Milwaukee are included.
Locations besides Chicago and Milwaukee include: Skokie, the Mundelein Branch, North Chicago Jct., Howard and Union, Illinois, home of the Illinois RR Museum. A fan trip on the Milwaukee City Lines cars is also featured.
Equipment viewed are: all kinds of North Shore equipment including Electroliners and Steeple Cabs; EL Cars and P&W third rail cars including Electroliners, Bullets, and Strafford cars.
You’ll view this exciting footage from trackside, on car, as well as pacing sequences.

In part 1 of the 2-part un-narrated series, there is a huge variety of electric action in & around Chicago on the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee with the Electro-Liner now at IRM as well as F-units on the Milwaukee Road with the same yellow colors on Union Pacific, & Chicago & Northwestern on Commuter service, with a GP7 on the 400, & even the Red Arrow Lines which these cars look identical to the Electro-Liner, Plus the Milwaukee City Lines with a ride on one of the cars.
Locations include Skokie, the Mundaline Branch & Junction, the Windy City’s elevated loop lines, North Chicago Junction, Milwaukee Terminal, Howard with a ride, Downtown Milwaukee, Howard Cut, & even a bunch of unknown spots.
All of these silent films have added music to go with these footages, as well as winter scenes in the snow.
One of the CNS&M Trolleys is referenced to a Nickel Plate Berkshire on display at Conneaut Ohio, while another is referred to a C&NW 10-wheeler under restoration at Owosso Michigan, & another is referred to a Southern 2-8-0 in Knoxville Tennessee.
