Here is modern CSX on the bridges and through the tunnels of the famed Magnolia Cutoff in West Virginia. The B&O originally followed the circuitous course of the Potomac River, but in the early 20th century, after the arrival of competitor Western Maryland, built a new, more direct line with tunnels cutting through the Appalachians and big bridges over the Potomac. Join us as we follow this scenic main line from Hancock to Paw Paw, WVa.

  1. CapitolRailfan88

Shot in the late 2000’s, this video shows off the Magnolia Cutoff. Aside form newer signals being installed not much has changed through this stretch. The Cutoff, I feel, is often overlooked by railfans not familiar to the area. The video and camera work are good. The train audio is also good. The Narration audio is definitely in need of some tweaking/correcting. Audio issues aside this is an ok DVD.

Big time railroading set against a spectacular backdrop. The Magnolia Cutoff is known for its engineering marvels, and this program does a great job putting those features in the spotlight. As always, Highball’s videography is top-notch, with footage from some off-the-beaten-path locations. Railroads, tunnels and bridges just seem to go together, and whether you watch it for the trains or the setting, you won’t be disappointed with “CSX On The Magnolia Cutoff”.

This line on the CSX is an engineering work of art with all the bridges, tunnels & curves. It’s a beautiful stretch of railroad. Quite an interesting video to watch. I enjoyed this one.
