The newly formed CSX railroad saw a lot of changes in the 1980s. The locomotives were slowly being repainted and for most of the early to mid 1980’s, the railroad was was still trying to present a uniform image, as most locomotives were still in predecessor paint schemes. In this video, you will see predecessor power from L&N, RF&P, Seaboard System, Chessie System, Family Lines as well as a single unit from the Georgia Railroad and the earliest CSX paint schemes
From high priority intermodals to locals to Amtrak’s Auto Train pulled by long scrapped P30CH’s (Basically a cowled U30C), this program has it all! You will see CSX action in Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia and Florida. A special treat is a lashup of 3 U36B’s spliced by GE Mate slugs.
This was a colorful time back when EMD’s ruled the rails of CSX before the influx of GE units, and CSX’s loyalty to the builder, became apparent in the late 1990’s. Step back in time with Arthur Purchase to explore these days as they were.
