St. Louis in the 1980?s was a colorful and busy place when it came to railroad action. Between 1986 and 1989, George Redmond traveled to St. Louis numerous times, catching action on the TRRA, Manufactures Railway and several of the big railroads at the time at locations as diverse as Valley Park, Grand Ave., Kirkwood and even inside Alton and Southern?s Gateway Yard.

Highlights in this program include the first public movements of the freshly restored Frisco 4-8-2 Mountain 1522, Union Pacific and Manufactures Railway trains pulling the 4% grade up to the MacArthur Bridge, The Katy?s final F-unit and the last manually operated grade crossing in the area, which closed in 1992.

Fallen flags are represented with power from the Rio Grande, MKT, Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, Illinois Central Gulf and several others making appearances. With locations that have since changed a lot or are no longer accessible to the railfan, this look at railroading in the St. Louis area in the 1980?s is one program that will want to enjoy for years to come!

Katy, MoPac, SP, DRGW, oh my! What can I say. This video covers alot of ground in the St. Louis area including locations that have significantly changed or are now off limits to railfans. While I know a narrated version is coming out, I couldn’t wait and snagged this one up. It’s interesting to see how locations have changed over the years since this footage was shot.
