Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 Hudson #2816 is one of the most beloved steam locomotives in North America. In this program, you’ll follow her on what was perhaps her most premier assignment since she was built in 1930: her run from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, all the way to Mexico City. In this program, you’ll follow “The Empress” as she is known, through three countries, starting in Calgary and ending in Mexico City.

See action in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Enjoy the varied scenery along the way, rivers, farm country, canyons and mountains. See the epic climb over Rich Mountain in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Experience both fast running and blasting up steep grades. Watch the incredible welcome given to her by the people of Mexico.

Disc contains chapter menus and the option for narration in both English and Spanish.

In the Railway Productions version of 2816’s biggest transcontinental Journey from its homebase in Calgary Alberta Canada in Late April to Mexico City in Early June of last year, the only operating Hudson in North America in the modern era performed flawlessly good delighting almost each & every railfan in 3 countries, especially when it’s the very first steam engine in Canada to be Equipped with Positive Train Control.

Some other road names were shown aside from the CPKC including Metra, Amtrak, & even some River Barges.

Stock Footage from 2816 in May of 2006 & KCS’ Heavener Subdivision from 2021 was used, as this program was made with a total of 14 camera crews: including Kevin Gilliam of Trains Magazine, as well as Brady Sanker & Randy Scholl (brother of the late Greg).

Aside from Jarrett’s own narration, the Spanish dub was told by Ms. Daniella Monterllano.

The only America By Rail music used in this program was from the Downtown Santa Fe New Mexico Segment from Route of the Southwest Chiefs in 1997 during 2816’s arrival in Mexico City from a drone while the closing credits are played.

Some other producers were there for 2816’s biggest journey ever including James Parfrey of Steam Train Videos, Diverging Clear Productions, etc.

I’m kinda torn in between the two reviewers but the reason I’m giving this one a 3 star rating is because, one, I don’t like Mexico as it is too dangerous for me to visit. Two, this video has a Spanish narration next to English narration and finally, I wish they would encounter the return trip to Calgary, Alberta after Mexico. On the positive note however, I actually had the opportunity to visit Kansas City Union Station on May 18 and it my first time that I encountered a real life Canadian steam train in person. This is the memory I chose for my Dad as I lost him the week before Christmas. I don’t wish to tell you how it happened that day but all I do know is that I had a good experience of 2816 and I also feel that she is very beautiful locomotive than the N&W 611 in my opinion.

We put a tremendous amount of effort and expense into this. It took THREE MONTHS to edit.

A way to short of a video for the distance (6500kms +) covered. This should have been a multi-series video (2 or more 2 hour long parts).
While the video opens in Calgary Alberta, we never see it actually leaving the city. 1st seen in motion is at speed with Calgary in the background. Then to North Portal Saskatchewan (964kms from Calgary) in 12 minutes of video with a few stops. wowww…. thanks Canada, you are important. We do see it crossing the 49th parallel. With many stops along the way in the USA, some great locations are not seen….eg: Valley City ND. is seen, but not where the BNSF trestle is going over the CPKC line. A beautiful location missed. And that is the theme of the story. Another example: Laredo Texas… we do not see the crossing of the Rio Grande River. You would think that location should be a highlite. Mexico, the 18 minutes of video over the 1200kms is nice. Great to see the Mexican crowds.
The stops seen are to to short, & not enough stops for such an important train tour.
My personal view point is: The producer put the video together to fast simply to get a video of 2816 on the market. I was not overly impressed & am hoping that some other producer comes out with something better. If not…. this is better than nothing.
